Set up email alerts
Choose where PinWatch alerts are sent, test them, learn which address is used when none is set, and see exactly when PinWatch emails you.
Set your alert address
- Select your name at the top right, then select Settings. You’ll land on Notification Settings. You can also open https://pinwatch.oroe.ai/settings/notifications.
- Turn on Email Notifications.
- Enter your Email Address.
- Select Save Settings.
- Select Test Email to send yourself a test message.
Note Save your settings before you select Test Email. The test uses what’s saved, not what’s typed in the box. If nothing has been saved yet, the test can’t be sent.
If PinWatch can’t load your saved settings, you’ll see “Couldn’t load your notification settings”. Saving is switched off until they load, so your existing settings can’t be overwritten by mistake. Select Try Again.
Which address is used
There are two places an address can live:
- Your alert address, in Notification Settings. Every monitor can use it.
- A monitor’s own address, set when you edit an uptime monitor. It overrides the alert address for that monitor only.
When you create an uptime monitor, the address you type is saved as your alert address. Keyword monitors use the alert address.
If a monitor has Email Alerts ticked but no address has been set anywhere, PinWatch sends its alerts to the email address of your Oroe account, the one you sign in with. The address it picks is saved on the monitor, and you can see or change it with Edit.
Send one uptime monitor’s alerts somewhere else
- Open https://pinwatch.oroe.ai/monitors.
- On the monitor’s card, select the Edit button (the pencil). Or open the monitor and select Edit at the top.
- In Edit Monitor, tick Email Alerts.
- Fill in Send alerts to.
- Select Save Changes.
When you turn email alerts on for a monitor, or change its address, PinWatch sends a confirmation email to that address. It tells you the monitor’s current status, so you know alerts will arrive.
What gets sent, and when
| Situation | What you receive |
|---|---|
| An uptime monitor fails 3 checks in a row | A down alert |
| It is still down on the next checks | Up to 3 down alerts in total for one outage |
| It comes back up after a down alert | 1 recovery alert |
| A keyword monitor’s condition is met | A keyword alert |
The card in Edit Monitor sums it up: “Up to 3 alerts when down, 1 recovery alert”.
Good to know A monitor that is paused doesn’t check, so it can’t alert. Remember to resume it. See Manage your monitors.
Tip Add PinWatch alerts to your safe senders list. An alert that lands in spam is an alert you don’t see.
